Bodegas Urbina, Rioja Crianza 2015

Why we love this bottle

Bodegas Urbina was founded in 1870 in Cuzcurrita del Río Tirón, western Rioja Alta. The estate is run by the fourth generation — brothers Ángel, Pedro and Santiago — and covers 75 hectares of estate vineyards. What makes Urbina unusual is its relationship with time: wines are released deliberately late, carrying years of barrel and bottle age before reaching the market. A Crianza from 2015 arriving a decade after harvest is standard practice here, not an anomaly.

We love it because Urbina makes the kind of patient, honest Rioja that is becoming very difficult to find.
